A new nursery and pre-school opens on Sutton Park Road on Monday 11 January 2027, with spaces for up to 87 children aged from three months to five years.

Little Pioneers Sutton, at 2-6 Sutton Park Road (SM1 2GA), follows an investment of £650,000 by Our Co-op, the co-operative that runs the Little Pioneers chain. Families can already book a visit to look around the building and meet the staff before it opens, through the nursery’s own page. An official ribbon cutting is planned for Thursday 7 January, four days before the first children arrive.

Four rooms, a sensory room and time outdoors

The nursery will be split into four separate rooms, one for each age group, each set up for the stage the children in it have reached. “The nursery will have four separate rooms with a tailored environment for each age group to support their learning and development, while ensuring they have fun at the same time,” Little Pioneers says.

There is also an indoor sensory room, “designed to encourage them to explore and discover in a safe and stimulating environment.”

Time outside is part of the day too. “Outdoor learning is also an important part of life at Little Pioneers Sutton,” the nursery says. “Children will have opportunities to visit local green spaces and enjoy learning outside, helping them develop physical skills, confidence, independence and curiosity, while building a lasting connection with the natural world.”

Its page points to Manor Park and Cheam Park and Playground as the green spaces nearby, and describes the site as being in West Sutton, close to Sutton, Belmont and Sutton Common stations, with St Nicholas Shopping Centre a short distance away. The nursery says that makes it well placed for families travelling to and from central London.

A key worker for every family

Each child and family will be given a named key worker. In the nursery’s words, that person “will listen and work with them in partnership to make sure they’re getting the best from nursery life, including updates on their child’s progress to advice on toilet training, food, friendships, sleeping patterns and more.”

Teaching follows the chain’s own curriculum, which it calls the Pioneering Pathway. Little Pioneers says it was “created by a specialist educational team which ensures every child will develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and curiosity they need to thrive and be ready for the next stage of their educational journey.”

The organisation puts the case for early years plainly. “The first five years of a child’s life provide the foundations that shape their future,” it says. “During this time, their brain develops more rapidly than at any other stage of life, with around 90% of brain development taking place by the age of five.”

Little Pioneers says funded sessions are available at all of its nurseries, including flexible funded spaces, and its site has a page on the funding options. Opening hours for Sutton are still listed as to be confirmed.

Parents can join the co-op

Little Pioneers is run by Our Co-op, which describes itself as the UK’s largest independent co-operative. Parents whose children attend the Sutton nursery can become members, which the co-op says gives them “a say in how it is run and access to exclusive deals as well as special offers from across its Our Co-op family of businesses.”

Its stated aim for the nurseries is “a holistic, child-centric approach to education, helping every child to become their best selves whilst also learning about the communities and world they live in.”

How to visit

Visits can be arranged through the Little Pioneers Sutton page, which also has a brochure to download. The nursery can be reached on 0800 954 0669 or at info@littlepioneers.coop.
